Otto Bock project
The Solution…
As Lead Designer, I pioneered a first-of-its-kind three-part modular architecture. This system decoupled the aesthetic shell from the core mechanics, consisting of:
A standalone, high-density LCD module (integrating IR sensors, light sensors, and UI components).
A core joystick control module.
A single-piece die-cast body optimised for on-demand painting.
The Challenge…
Tasked with developing a flagship wheelchair joystick for Otto Bock, I needed to reconcile a major conflict: the client required custom painting of the complex die-cast body at their own facility, but the unit’s high-precision calibration and IP sealing typically required a factory-sealed assembly.
